Selling Chicks from the Hatchery

From an empty catalog to a placed chick order, in five short stages: set up your items, price them, attach accessories, add the customer, then enter the order.

Overview

Selling a chick touches five records that build on each other. Do them in order the first time and you'll have a working order end to end. This tutorial walks a single path with sample data — a Novogen Brown pullet.

Step 1 — Add the chick item

  1. Open Products and click + to add a product.
  2. Enter the SKU (required, e.g. NVB-F) and a Description (this shows on sales documents).
  3. Set Chick Type to Female.
  4. Pick the Breed (Novogen Brown).
  5. Enter Cost and Weight, leave Pickable on, then click Save.

Step 2 — Set the price

  1. Confirm a Retail price level exists (price levels are your named pricing tiers).
  2. Set the product's price. For a rule that applies only to this product, turn on Custom pricing.

Full pricing setup lives in the How-To guide "Configure pricing."

Step 3 — Attach accessories

  1. On the product, open Accessories and Add an accessory product (e.g. a heat pack or shipping box).
  2. Set the Multiplier (how many per bird) and check Default accessory so it's added to orders automatically.

Step 4 — Add the customer

  1. Open Customers and click +.
  2. Enter the customer Id (required) and the Contact (name + address).
